Indigenous Rights, Self-Determination & Governance Collection
More than 50 years of original documents.
This collection contains materials relating to Indigenous sovereignty, self-government, treaties, political autonomy, and governance systems, including the Self-Determination and Indigenous Governance, Indigenous Sovereignty & Treaties, and Tribal Governance & Self-Government sub-collections. The documents range from the late 1970s through the mid-2000s.
Many of the materials in this collection were created, compiled, and collected by Dr. Rudolph C. Rÿser during his more than fifty-year career working with tribal governments. The collection documents Rÿser’s work in support of Indigenous self-determination in the United States, including his advisory work with tribal leaders such as Joe DeLaCruz, Russell Jim, Sam Cagey, and Henry Cagley in matters relating to self-governance, treaty rights, and political autonomy.
