This collection contains materials on Indigenous sovereignty, self-government, treaties, political autonomy, and governance systems and the Self-Determination and Indigenous Governance, Indigenous Sovereignty & Treaties, and Tribal Governance & Self-Government sub-collections.
These documents were largely collected by Dr. Rudolph Rÿser over the course of his more than 50-year-long career working with tribal governments in the Pacific Northwest and the United Nations. Rÿser was an active proponent of Indigenous self-determination and worked with many nations and leaders, such as Joe DeLaCruz, to help them flesh out what self-governance actually meant for them and to identify a path forward.
